‘Tis a Little Bit of Heaven
2023, Digital Art, 12 in x 8 in
This project was drawn in Procreate using an ipad. After losing a family member in the fall of 2022, I discovered an image of a drop of water that created a ripple effect, and I wondered how the ripple would connect to the idea of a large wave. It then hit me; the ripple of water represents an event that occurs in life. The drop of water comes unexpectedly and shakes the entire body of water creating ripples that go on until the edge of the water. Every drop of water takes a different amount of time to calm down and it never fully becomes still which is like how every event in life is unique to a person. The ripple forever changes the water and grief forever changes your life. However, for some, as the time goes on, the ripple gets to be smaller and less impactful on the water. This reminded me of how it is often said that time heals all wounds. The more time that passes, the more that the event has less of an impact on daily life. However, this drop of water will forever be a part of the body of water from here on out. Grief is very similar to this because your life is forever changed by the loss of a person, but their presence missing from the world and event of losing them will always be there throughout the rest of life. We must learn to live with the pain of grief which will eventually lessen as time goes on.
The Wave
2023, Paper Origami, 90 in x 72 in
When I see the water, it immediately brings me peace. For this project I decided to continue with the theme of my last project which was water. Like the ripple from my first piece, this project I created a 3D piece that was inspired by the ocean. The ocean can also be mean something other than face value just like the ripple. Similar to life there are always peaks and valleys in waves. They might come and knock you down, but they also reach great heights and are constantly moving. In life, people and events will build you up and also knock you down, but life will always go on. The ocean can be scary, dark and daunting. Nearing the end of college, I can’t help but think that the life after college seems daunting and nerve wracking. Waves in the water and in life are always present, strong and resilient. Each triangle was hand folded over the course of two weeks. Once all of the triangles were created, each one was then hand painted with a range of three different shades of blue. Finally, they each were carefully placed in their location on to the poster boards. Finally, the poster boards were all taped to the wall and came together to create the finished product.

Salve Regina Seahawks Bulletin Board
2023, Digital Art Bulletin Board, 36 in x 48 in
When looking for a location to create an installation for this project, my mind immediately went to Rogers Recreation center at Salve Regina University. This is the building on campus that I spend countless hours in. Some mornings I am there as early as 5am and some nights I’m there until 10pm. It is where my coach, trainers, gym, locker room and so much more are. One of the things that Rogers Rec is missing is art on the walls. Every day I walk into our locker room and see the bulletin board that has been the same empty wall since I moved in at Salve in 2020. For my three years here, no one has updated the board and I knew immediately this is what I wanted to do. Because the bulletin board is in the girl’s locker room, I decided I wanted to create something that will inspire female athletes. It’s no secret that there is a lack of gender equality in sports. It is a pressing issue, and it is not just in professional sports but even collegiate. I am proud to be one of a few female student athletes here at Salve and I want other girls to be too. I wanted to create a work that would inspire female athletes to push themselves to their full potential and remember who they are playing for. The silhouettes are based off photographs of current student athletes at Salve right now. I wanted to incorporate this because I felt it was important to give it an added personal touch. My hope is that when student athletes see my work, they are inspired to play their hearts out for the school and for themselves. The design and all of the graphics were created in Adobe Illustrator. Once created, they were printed out and glued to the bulletin board.
